Rediscovering SimCity 2013 in 2023: Building a City from Zero

Welcome to my unique journey through SimCity 2013, a game that sparked controversy and mixed feelings upon its release. Now, in 2023, I’m revisiting SimCity 2013 to see how it stands up after a decade. This Let’s Play series will delve into the complexities and challenges of building a city in a game known for its ambitious yet flawed execution. Join me in episode one as we navigate the highs and lows of SimCity 2013’s gameplay.

As we commence our SimCity 2013 adventure, we’re immediately faced with the task of strategic road construction. Balancing high-density streets and budget constraints with an initial fund of 50,000 simoleons showcases the intricate planning required in SimCity 2013. This episode explores the depth of city planning and the critical decisions that shape our urban landscape, reflecting on the game’s ambitious but often criticized mechanics.

Diving deeper into the world of SimCity 2013, this episode highlights the game’s unique features and the challenges they present. We experiment with upgrading road densities, a feature that sets SimCity 2013 apart, yet also contributes to its complexity. The gameplay reveals both the innovative aspects and the shortcomings that have defined SimCity 2013’s legacy.

An essential aspect of SimCity 2013 is resource management, and in this episode, we tackle the challenge of establishing power sources. The choice between coal and alternative energy sources in SimCity 2013 is not just a gameplay mechanic but also a commentary on urban environmental challenges. This episode delves into the strategic planning required to balance city growth with resource constraints, a reflection of the real-world issues that SimCity 2013 aimed to simulate.

Water management is another crucial element in SimCity 2013, and our gameplay explores the nuances of selecting the right location for water towers or hydropower pumps. This episode demonstrates how SimCity 2013 challenges players to think critically about infrastructure placement and resource utilization, highlighting the game’s attempt to mirror real-world urban planning complexities.

No city is complete without addressing the basics of public utilities, and in this episode of SimCity 2013, we confront the realities of sewage management. The game’s approach to these mundane yet essential aspects of city management adds a layer of realism, despite the initial criticism SimCity 2013 faced for its oversimplification of certain urban dynamics.

Financial management is a pivotal aspect of SimCity 2013, and in this episode, we experience the challenge of balancing the city’s budget. The gameplay encapsulates the struggle of making prudent financial decisions, from taking out bonds to managing expenses, reflecting the real challenges mayors face and adding a layer of authenticity to SimCity 2013, despite its initial reception.

Building a town hall marks a significant milestone in our SimCity 2013 gameplay. This episode showcases the bureaucratic elements of city management, a feature that received mixed reactions for its execution in SimCity 2013 but undeniably adds depth to the gameplay experience.

The economic aspect of SimCity 2013 is further explored as we consider options like establishing a gambling house. The decision-making process in the game mirrors the complexities of urban development and economic strategy, despite the criticism SimCity 2013 received for its handling of such features.

The introduction of religious buildings in SimCity 2013 adds a cultural dimension to city planning. This episode focuses on the challenge of integrating diverse structures into the urban landscape, a gameplay aspect that SimCity 2013 included to add variety, though it was met with mixed feedback from players.

As our city in SimCity 2013 grows, we delve into the intricacies of upgrading residential zones and the impact of parks on neighborhood development. This episode highlights the game’s attempt to simulate urban growth and the challenges associated with it, an aspect that was both appreciated and criticized in SimCity 2013.

Concluding the first episode of our SimCity 2013 series, we reflect on the game’s overall performance and its standing in 2023. Despite the initial backlash it faced, SimCity 2013 offers a complex and engaging city-building experience, as demonstrated in our gameplay. Stay tuned for more episodes as we continue to explore the depths of SimCity 2013 and discover whether its legacy has evolved over the years.

ABANDON SHIP! Cities Skylines 2 – The Good, The Bad… The Ugly

Cities Skylines 2: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. One month on from it’s initial PC release, Cities Skylines 2 is in danger of being eclipsed in active player count by Cities Skyline 1 – the OG city builder from Colossal Order proving to be nearly as popular with active Steam players despite being close to a decade old. So in this Cities Skylines 2: One Month Later video review I’ll take a look at how the game has developed, what’s going on with player counts, and of course, the key good, bad & ugly points about Cities Skylines 2. The main focus point for the ugly is a comparison between Cities Skylines 1 vs Cities Skylines 2, specifically looking at how players have expectedly abandoned ship Cities skyline 2, though not strictly in favor of city skylines 1 again. Thanks so much for watching! #citiesskylines2 #gaming #simulation

Cities Skylines 2 On The Brink: Will It Survive The Backlash?

Since Cities Skylines 2 disastrous launch, we’ve had time to dissect and analyze the fallout, the communication from Colossal Order and the hotfixes (or lack therefore) to help answer a much bigger question… Is Cities Skylines 2 on the brink or failure, or can it lead a redemption story to success?

Cities Skylines 2 has suffered from terrible performance issues, accusations of a fake economy, its DLC is delayed, patches are now sparse and the task before Colossal Order is huge. We’ve seen games like KSP2 crumble with 2023 taking plenty of other casualties.

So is Cities Skylines 2 another notch to 2023 or can it be saved? Let’s discuss this and more in today’s opinion piece.

Cities Skylines 2 – NEW Delays & The 3 Major Patch Update Dilemmas

Today we’re discussing three gameplay dillemas Colossal Order are prioritising, on the backdrop of a poorly performing PC release, delayed console release, and missing features at launch. These dilemmas evidently lead to further delays to the promised content in Cities 2 – this time the free building packs meant to accompany the also delayed editor/ mods & other early DLC that’s a part of the Cities Skylines 2 Ultimate Edition. We’ll also briefly touch on the last Cities Skylines 2 patch update on Steam, and the immediate problem points CO are addressing (bug fixes around mail services, exports, and more!) Thanks for watching!
